Hospitality Daily is brought to you with support from the Independent Lodging Congress - which produces my favorite events in the industry. Join me October 20-22 at their Sausalito Congress here.

Today, we're learning from Jennifer Krapp, head of restaurant operations at The Indigo Road Hospitality Group, about what it takes to operate effectively and get stuff done as a hospitality leader today.

The big idea: Being an effective hospitality leader is about getting things done—and doing that the right way.

There is a very fine line between hospitality - the way you make people feel - and then grit and resilience in dealing with the issues and the problems. You've got to be able to hold people accountable.

Jennifer Krapp

Why this matters: We talk a lot about feelings in hospitality—for our guest experience and also in the culture among our teams. But success in the hospitality industry requires a mindset of getting stuff done—and doing it in a way that preserves and enhances your culture.

Put this insight into action:

  • Identify something important that needs to get done in your business that you're putting off because it's difficult.

  • Strategize: What conversations do you need to have to move your business ahead - while teaching your team in the process?
