Data-driven ways of driving happiness

This week Iā€™ve been reading Don't Trust Your Gut: Using Data to Get What You Really Want in Life by Seth Stephens-Davidowitz.

One of the biggest things that stood out to me is how weā€™re not great at predicting what will make us happy. The chart below is what people in a study predicted would make them happy - and how happy they actually felt. The difference column is fascinating to me:
