Would you like more media coverage? Today, we're getting a PR masterclass from CJ Arlotta on how you can work with journalists to get coverage for your hospitality business. Here are a few key takeaways from our conversation:

PR is more than just media relations

It’s about communicating effectively to all of your stakeholders.

The messaging needs to be cohesive and on point, ensuring that all stakeholders receive a consistent and unified message.

Building relationships with journalists is crucial

Success in this is all about adding value to their audience and building long-term relationships based on trust and mutual benefit.

You don't want to come across that you're always wanting something from the journalist. You want to go out there and you want to figure out a way to add value to them and also add value to their audience. Figure out what they're interested in learning more about, figure what their audience is, figure out some of the trending topics, the narratives that are going on in the industry, and determine how you can fit in those narratives.

Preparation and confidence are key to success

Whether it's a media interview or a panel discussion, being well-prepared and confident can make a big difference.

Make sure that you look at the publication ahead of time. Look at other interviews ahead of time. Know who the person is and how they conduct interviews. It just makes you feel comfortable.

According to CJ, journaling can help as well.

A lot of people journal personally, but maybe you could keep a journal for the business. If you're looking to contribute articles or be on panels - throughout your day, just try to keep track of ideas that come out throughout the day that could be an interesting topic for a thought leadership article. When you do this, when you're interviewed, you can pull it up and recall some of the things that you wrote down. You're not sitting there wondering what to say next.

If you're interested in learning more about how to engage with journalists and get media coverage, I highly recommend listening to the full episode today. By following CJ's advice, you can increase your chances of getting the coverage you want and making a bigger impact in the hospitality industry.
