Web Reservations International Buys HostelBookers.com

Web Reservations International (WRI) with headquarters in Dublin has acquired HostelBookers.com.

The online booking company already owns the online portals Hostelworld.com and Hostels.com.

WRI currently offers reservations to over 35,000 accommodation venues in 180 countries, including hostels, budget hotels, Bed & Breakfasts, guesthouses, campsites and apartments.

The company’s CEO Feargal Mooney said WRI aimed to be the fastest-growing online provider of value accommodation through the application of innovative technology.

“We are delighted to have agreed the purchase of HostelBookers with its owners,” he said today.

“We have long admired the business, and can see real opportunities for our customers and property owners in this combination.”

The acquisition comes in light of consolidation in the online travel industry, and promises to tackle travel giants such as Expedia and Booking.

“We want to provide a service that both competes head to-head with the large online travel agents, and retains the personal service and sector knowledge that comes from being a smaller, budget-focused player,” said Mr Mooney.

The acquisition is an all-paper deal and is expected to require regulatory approval before completion.

WRI is owned by private equity firm Hellman and Friedman.

Terms of the acquisiton have not been disclosed.
